Business

    BA101 Introduction to Business (3-0-3)

An introductory course in business designed to give students an overview of the major areas of business: accounting, finance, marketing and organizational behavior.
    BA120 Introduction to Sales (3-0-3)

Course explores sales as a means for achieving career objectives. Special emphasis will be placed on combining techniques of presentation, poise and refinement with psychology and marketing fundamentals to assist students in developing a critical understanding of consumer behavior in the sales environment, and gaining confidence in selling.
    BA110 Business English (3-0-3)

The course aims to teach students how to communicate more effectively in Business English in all four skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening.

    BA121 Principles of Economics and Cost Accounting (3-0-3)

Time value of money, rate of return, taxes, depreciation, product costing systems including job order costing, process costing, joint products costing, operational costing, and costing in manufacturing and service organizations. Activity-based costing systems.
    BA150 Human Relations and Psychology (3-0-3)

This course acquaints students with administrative principles and practices emphasizing the human relations aspect of management responsibility as it affects employee attitudes, morale, and productivity. Major emphasis is on relationships among individuals and/or small groups.
    BA200 Business Communications (3-0-3)

This course will survey the principles and techniques of business communications. Methods of investigating, organizing, and presenting business data and ideas are covered. Focus is on effective oral and written business communications.
    BA201 Office Procedures (3-0-3)

This course provides office-related situations to include decision-making and critical thinking activities. Planning international travel, planning and conducting a seminar, selecting resources, and guest presenters and tours of local business are included.

    BA211 Machine Transcription (2-2-3)

This course provides advanced transcription skills. Emphasis is on specialized transcription features. Upon completion, students should be able to transcribe complex business documents into mailable copy with minimal assistance.

    BA221 Business Law (3-0-3)

Introduces an understanding of law through its forms, classifications and sources. Impact of law as influenced by political, social and economic needs; legal rights and their enforcement; and functions of administrative agencies.

    BA231 Personnel Management (3-0-3)

This course reviews issues of personnel management in organizations. Topics include direction and motivation, leadership behavior, recruitment of support staff, orientation and training programs, personnel placement and reassignment, assignment of work, personnel evaluation and counseling, obsolescence and retraining, employee grievances, and handling of conflict situations.

    ENGL101 Introduction to Academic Discourse (3-0-3)

The main composition element of this introduction to academic discourse is organized on the basis of the principal methods of exposition (comparison, causal analysis, classification, etc.) at the level of the sentence, paragraph and composition. Attention is also paid to such important aspects of text as coherence, unity, conciseness, and sentence readability, and to problem areas of grammar and sentence structure such as fragments, fused sentences, and subject-verb agreement. The reading component focuses on ways to improve student reading of technically-oriented textbooks, encyclopedias, and specialist periodicals.
    ENGL102 Introduction to Report Writing (3-0-3)

The course consists of two main elements: library research skills and the writing of a term report. Students are familiarized with the university library's circulation reference sections; they learn how to locate printed materials using various methods. Finally students are instructed in narrowing a topic, taking notes from sources and formatting a term paper.

 Islamic & Arabic Studies

    IAS111 Belief and its Consequences (2-0-2)

A course to vitalize the students’ knowledge of, and commitment to, Islamic Doctrines, seeking thereby to fortify them against the onslaught of godless ideologies. Topics include the following: An introduction to faith, its foundations and sources; the fundamentals of beliefs: divinity, prophethood, and after-life; the treatment of different subjects in the Qur’an which deal with the universe, man, and life; and a consideration of the position of the contemporary Muslim vis-à-vis the different alien doctrines and the need for his adherence to Islam and renunciation of all false ideologies.
    IAS201 Writing for Professional Needs (2-0-2)

The course will introduce students to methods of research, exposing its theoretical and practical aspects, and will attempt to develop students' linguistic and literary potential, both in reading and writing. The course will be especially concerned with the essay, dealing with its different varieties, purposes, styles, and forms -- religious, scientific, literary, and journalistic. In its practical aspect, the course will require students to study essays of a few outstanding writers and to write compositions on six subjects. Moreover, the course will require students to practice oral self-expression, with the instructor correcting and discussing the mistakes of students, both those that are commonly spread among Arabic speakers and those that individual students might make.
 

Management

    MGT201 Principles of Management (3-0-3)

This course covers fundamental management principles and concepts. Emphasis is placed on the management functions of planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling. Principles of scientific management, motivation, and economic analysis are studied relative to their use in business decisions.
    MGT202 Organization Behavior and Design (3-0-3)

This course consists of an examination of the complex relationships among individuals, groups, organizations, and society. A dynamic systems approach to understanding and facilitating work relationships is emphasized through the study of the interaction of individual needs, abilities, and traits with organizational goals and structure.

    MGT204 Project Feasibility Analysis in Arabic (3-0-3)

Concepts, process, and methodology in feasibility analysis of private investment projects, especially the analysis of marketing, technical, financial, economic and environmental feasibilities; preparation of the feasibility study, project proposal and report with emphasis on practices.

Mathematics

    MATH121 Introduction to Applied Calculus (3-2-3)

The theorem-proof approach of differential and integral calculus is covered with the explanation-example, numerical and graphical methods. Non-traditional applications are stressed. Exponential and logarithmic functions, derivatives, the definite integral, polynomials, rational, and their applications to business and social sciences.
