EFL LECTURERS (2-year
renewable contracts)
Dammam Community College (an affiliate of KFUPM) is
a newly established tertiary English-medium
institution catering to the needs of male students
who will progress to associate degrees in Computer & Information Technology , business administration, accounting
and marketing. The college runs a Preparatory Year
Program (PYP), which consist of mainly English and
Mathematics courses. The English Preparatory Year
Program (EPYP) consists of two academic semesters.
The English Language Centre also offers a College
English Program for students who graduate from the
Preparatory Year Program and undertake associate
degree course studies.
The college is interested in recruiting
well-qualified, committed and experienced teachers
of EFL/ESL/EAP for both English Programs.
English Preparatory Year Program faculty will teach
in a structured 20-hour-per-week intensive courses
in English. College English Program faculty will
teach 12 hours per week.
Applicants are invited to apply at any time, but the
main recruiting periods are for semesters beginning
in either September or February of each academic
year. Applicants must be male graduates from an
Anglophonic university.
Qualifications:
A minimum of a bachelor degree with a CELTA plus 2
years overseas experience is usually required.
A first degree with postgraduate qualifications in
TESOL (e.g. RSA/UCLES DELTA or Dip TEFLA) with
appropriate experience is recommended.
A first degree in any discipline with an MA in TEFL/TESOL
or Applied Linguistics or a one - year, full-time
postgraduate diploma in TEFL/TESL from an accredited
university is highly recommended.
Experiences:
At least two years' full-time teaching of EFL/ESL/EAP
is preferred.
Compensation:
SALARIES range from SR 108,000 to SR158,000 (approx.
$28,800 to $42,100) per annum depending upon
qualifications and experience. All compensation is
tax-free. In addition, a tax-free transportation
allowance of SR6,000 (approx. $1,600 ) per annum is
payable.
Service Increment:
Contracts are for two years renewable. A lecturer
may be entitled to an increase in base salary,
depending on his performance, on renewal of his
contract.
End-Of-Service Gratuity:
The employee will be paid an amount equal to half a
month's salary for each of the first five years of
employment. This is converted to a month's salary
after five years of service and for each subsequent
year of service.
Working Schedule:
WORKING HOURS: The working week is from Saturday to
Wednesday. EPYP faculty have to teach 20 contact
hours a week. In addition, faculty will be required
to conduct 5 office hours a week and may have to
participate in some administrative duties. The EPYP
conducts classes in the morning beginning at 08:00
through to15:00 and from 15:20 through to 20:30.
Occasionally, faculty may have to substitute for a
colleague who is sick or absent.
University Year:
The academic calendar, as set by the Ministry of
Higher Education, consists of three semesters: Fall;
Spring; and Summer. The main semesters, are Fall and
Spring, each consists of 15 weeks of teaching
followed by 1 week for Final examinations. The
Summer Session, is optional and faculty are employed
on a two-month summer contract including 4 days for
Final examinations.

Housing:
Each employee, whether single or with family, is
provided with fully furnished rent-free
accommodation. Free Housing Utilities include air
conditioning, gas, electricity, and water. There is
also free maintenance of these utilities.
Vacation:
Faculty leave is determined by the academic calendar
and faculty members are generally free between
semesters and during the summer semester, unless
they decide to teach the Summer Semester. The Fall
semester will began the beginning of September 2009
and will end in middle Febuary 2010. The Spring
semester will commence in beginning of March 2010
and will terminate at the end of June 2010. There
are also two school holidays of about two weeks for
the whole country, firstly, Eid Al-Fitr (the end of
September 2009) and secondly, Eid Al-Adhha (the end
of November 2009). In addition, there is a short
midterm break in April 2010. The academic year for
2010 will probably not start until October. During
all these paid holidays, those who want to leave the
country are granted visas.
Air-Tickets:
Annual round-trip air tickets to the point of origin
will be provided for the employee, his wife, and up
to two children up to the age of 18.
Health Care:
The employee and members of his family are provided
with free medical and dental care at government
operated medical facilities.
Children's Education:
The college pays a total of SR25,000 per annum
towards local education expenses. There are a number
of highly rated international schools in the area
including Dhahran Academy offering both American and
British streams - the British stream follows the
National Curriculum. There is also the British
School in Al-Khobar. The IPS is another American
school.
E-mail and Internet:
All faculty members have free access to e-mail and
Internet facilities at the college.
KFUPM Recreational
Facilities:
The Recreation Centre, which is for faculty members
and dependants, is the main area for recreation
on-campus. It has two swimming pools (men's and
women's), a snack bar, function rooms, a library,
tennis courts, squash courts, a bowling alley,
basketball and volleyball courts, a fully equipped
exercise room. Faculty members can utilise the main
university gymnasium, the stadium, the alternative
swimming pools and the faculty restaurant.
KFUPM Beach:
OFF-CAMPUS the university has its own beach
(separate areas for students and university
personnel) with changing facilities, shaded picnic
shelters and barbecue facilities.
